Obama: Anything Short of Socialism is Just Downright Un-American

When the going gets tough, Barack Obama gets to talking, and today as his poll numbers plummet and Obamacare is hurting millions of Americans, the president gave yet another speech. The president struck themes that are sure to resonate with progressives and the media, with “income inequality” the thread that tied his remarks together. Introducing no new policies, the president said this:

“But this increasing inequality is most pronounced in our country. And it challenges the very essence of who we are as a people,” Obama said.

As long as we have a free economy and free enterprise, we will have income inequality. In fact, even if we adopted a socialist model we would have income inequality. Socialism just puts wealth distribution and redistribution into the hands of government insiders, not the free market. It empowers government over the individual.

Income inequality is simply an immutable fact of life. It doesn’t “challenge who we are.” Having a president who routinely ignores the law and pushes divisive issues, threatening to never back down when his unpopular policies are proven failures, challenges who we are and undermines the basic rule of law.
