Earlier this week, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that not only was her department negotiating with the National Football League to help sell ObamaCare, but that the NFL was “enthusiastically” considering it. Republicans on the Hill chimed in, noting that helping promote such an unpopular policy might taint the league even worse than the arrests of dozens of its players already does.
Well, they reconsidered. The NFL has punted, it has passed, it has kicked ObamaCare to the curb.
UPDATE: NFL Spokesman Brian McCarthy emails:
We have responded to the letters we received from members of Congress to inform them we currently have no plans to engage in this area and have had no substantive contact with the administration about PPACA’s implementation.
The “no substantive contact” bit is an obvious slap to Sebelius. It suggests that she was lying about the league’s enthusiasm for the project. Which she probably was.
For those keeping score at home, the Democrats’ “winning week” has seen the Democratic President of the United States flipped the bird by China, Russia and Ecuador, and Obama’s top health care enforcer turned down flat by pro football. He cluelessly described NSA leaker Edward Snowden as a hacker in an obvious attempt to downplay the severity of the leaks and to distance his administration from the lax security that allowed Snowden so much access to so much material. A court also found that Hobby Lobby doesn’t have to pay ObamaCare’s fines while it fights its abortifacient mandate. Nobody’s really telling Obama “yes” anywhere. He’s having to rely on a state senator who is destined to lose on an abortion bill in Texas to drum up anything “special” to talk about. That mob-won “victory” will be temporary and probably set the blue Texas project back several years.
