Via Breitbart, it appears that Director of National Intelligence James Clapper followed Attorney General Eric Holder’s lead and lied to Congress under oath.
Testifying before Congress on March 12, 2013, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) asked DNI Clapper “Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?”
Clapper’s answer: “No, sir.”
Last week, we all learned that the NSA is building a $1.9 billion facility in Utah to do exactly what Sen. Wyden asked about, and that it has been sweeping up such records for years.
What did Clapper know about this, and when did he know it?
On Sunday, Clapper failed to even satisfy NBC on his attempt to explain himself. During an interview with Andrea Mitchell, Clapper tried to explain his March 12 answer: “First– as I said, I have great respect for Senator Wyden. I thought, though in retrospect, I was asked—‘When are you going to start– stop beating your wife’ kind of question, which is meaning not– answerable necessarily by a simple yes or no. So I responded in what I thought was the most truthful, or least untruthful manner by saying no.”
NBC’s response: “Clapper didn’t have a good response why he seemed to mislead Congress about the program.”
