Members of the Congressional Progressive Congress today will urge House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to bring a one-sentence bill to the floor to end sequestration.
The Cancel the Sequester Act of 2013 was introduced Feb. 28, just before the mandatory cuts took effect, by Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.). Twenty-six co-sponsors have come on board.
Unlike other sequestration repeal bills, though, this offers no solution to offset nixed spending cuts.
“Section 251A of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985 is repealed,” reads the entire text.
Conyers, along with Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.), and Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), will hold a press conference at noon to demand a vote on the bill today.
Moveon.org and Social Security Works will deliver more than 250,000 petitions signed nationwide to Boehner’s office demanding the same.
