What's with Liberals, And Breaking Gun Laws

As liberal Sen. Dianne Feinstein began her anti-gun press conference calling for a new assault weapons ban with no sunset provision, you may have noticed that she had a multitude of such weapons on display.  Weapons she thinks are scary.  As Emily Miller of The Washington Times wrote today, she may have pulled a “David Gregory.”  As D.C. doesn’t permit “any rifles that have a detachable magazine and any one of the following: a pistol grip, thumbhole stock, folding or telescoping stock, grenade or flare launcher or flash suppressor. The city bans specific makes and models which includes all the AK series, Bushmaster, Armalite AR 180 and Colt AR 15, among many others.”  So, did the gentlelady from California break the law?

The California Democrat declared that the guns were legal, due to a prearranged deal with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). She used the firearms as a prop while announcing her new super-charged “assault weapons ban.”

Brian Weiss, a spokesman for Mrs. Feinstein, told The Washington Times, that, “The weapons were under Washington MPD possession the entire time.” He said that the office “coordinated with the department” and the U.S. Capitol Police.

MPD Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier’s spokesman, Gwendolyn Crump, would not respond to an inquiry but referred all questions on the subject matter to the Capitol Police.

A spokesman for the Capitol Police, Officer Shennell S. Antrobus, responded two hours later that his department “helped the transfer within the building” of the firearms, which were then “in possession of law enforcement there.” He would not say what agency was overseeing the contraband weapons, nor who authorized breaking the city’s assault weapons ban. He referred all other questions to the sergeant at arms office and back to Mrs. Feinstein’s press staff. 

NBC’s David Gregory famously whipped out a high-capacity magazine, illegally, on Meet The Press last December, but is not going be prosecuted. A story Miller has covered Gregory’s felonious act, since any of us would normally be charged for such a violation.  Furthermore, AWR Hawkins at Breitbart posted today that “her [Feinstein’s] “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013“–a bill that not only bans “assault rifles,” but numerous handguns and shotguns too…when did handguns and shotguns become “assault rifles”?  They didn’t, but Democrats see this as their big chance to take away as many guns as they can, and they’re not about to pass that chance up…it is a gun grab, pure and simple.”

So, Feinstein’s display of these weapons is suspect, and they include handguns and shotguns.  For a party lusting to pass a comprehensive bill on gun control, deception and law-breaking, which hasn’t been determined yet, are some interesting ways to go about achieving that goal.
