Remember how Obama's foreign policy was supposed to make everyone love us more?

Yeah, not so much.

In the next four years, we are likely to see President Obama and his officials frequently reiterating their position that Britain must remain part of the European Union, in a vain effort to shore up supporters of EU membership in Britain, as well as give backing to the European Commission. This is by any measure an extraordinary intervention in the domestic affairs of a sovereign nation. As I’ve noted in previous pieces, Britain’s relationship with the EU is none of Barack Obama’s business. And nor is the European Project in America’s best interest. The Special Relationship will be far stronger with Britain outside of a declining EU.

It is yet another example of breathtaking arrogance in President Obama’s overall approach to US foreign policy, especially when it comes to dealing with America’s friends and allies. It was fully on display earlier this week, when it was revealed that Mr. Obama believes that “Israel doesn’t know what its own best interests are,” describing the Israeli prime minister as “a political coward”. It is the kind of hubris which leads the president to believe that he knows what’s best for the 62 million inhabitants of Great Britain, even though most polls show growing support for a British exit from the EU.

As we have all been so painfully made aware these last four years, it is impossible for the man to be anything but condescending. Couple that with his exceedingly annoying penchant for only giving the benefit of the doubt to our sworn enemies and one wonders how many decades it will take for future presidents to undo this hot mess.
