During the DNC convention, the Obama campaign constructed a picture of al Qaeda being all but destroyed after the killing of Osama bin Laden. Reporter Lara Logan has spent much of the past few years in the Middle East. She says that the administration is selling a story about al Qaeda’s demise that it knows is not true.

Lt Col Andrew Wood, the former military leader of the State Department’s security team in Libya, backed Logan’s assessment during House hearings this afternoon. Wood said that the US intervention in Libya has resulted in al Qaeda now being more established in Libya now than it was prior to the intervention. Wood added that al Qaeda is currently more established in Libya than the US itself is.
