During this afternoon’s hearings on the deadly 9-11 assault in Benghazi, Rep. Dennis Kucinich asked a basic question of Ambassador Patrick J. Kennedy: Is al Qaeda more or less established in Libya now than it was before the US-led intervention there?
Kennedy refused to answer, saying that as he is not an intelligence specialist, he is not in a position to know the answer. Kucinich asked the question of the other witnesses. Lt Col Andrew Wood answered that al Qaeda is now more established in Libya than it was prior to the 2011 intervention, and that the terrorist group is “certainly more established than we are.”
There were concerns during the intervention that the US and our NATO allies did not even know who made up the forces that were fighting to oust dictator Col. Muammar Ghaddafi. Similar concerns have arisen as the civil war in Syria escalates.
The Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group whose ideology gave rise to al Qaeda, has taken power in Egypt after the Obama administration helped push longtime dictator Hosni Mubarak from power there.
Earlier in the hearing, Lt Col Wood, who was the head of the military security team in Libya during much of 2012, said that the security provided there was “weak.” Ambassador Kennedy later indicated that he believed the consulate had adequate security protection. The consulate was attacked and quickly overrun on 9-11-12 and four Americans including the US ambassador to Libya were killed in that attack.

Obviously it didn’t
Springtime for Al Qaeda in Libya…
Fast and Furious Internationale.
Ouch. That hurts even just writing the words. Imagine it being a foreign policy doctrine you have worked hard on spring cleaning up and didn’t want re-branded and dot-connected to your domestic border bloodbath campaign.
Someone needs to apologize to the families of the murdered diplomats for leaving them high and dry with no security. This is beyond political. Criminally negligent.
And Charlene Lamb should be arrested.
I’m curious how Lt Col Andrew Wood knows that al Qaeda is now more established in Libya than it was prior to the 2011 intervention. He wasn’t in Libya or involved with the Libyan situation until February of 2012.
In any court that would be called “speculation,” and raise an immediate objection which any competent judge would sustain.
This gentleman has all of the earmarks of one of Darrell Issa’s carefully cherry-picked witnesses. He’s presenting opinion.
I believe all Libyan people against Al-Qaeda and I am one them, but I think the USA government still has a lot to know about the situation in Libya. for example more than 1.6 million piece of weapon present in Libya, the government is very weak, the long borders are not controlled, so any terrorists in the world can enter to Libya easily and do whatever he wish and we all know the relation between Algaeda and USA government, so they found good hunting in Benghazi, so they walk through with Libyan protesters and found themselves face to face with their goal. As I mention the Libyan government is still weak so no one couldn’t stop them and happen what happened. Now I asking USA government what is going to do. Is going to help the Libyan government to build up their government and help the Libya People to look to their future instead to look at each other. Or will send her CIA and other agencies where the fighting would start between the extremist on side and USA on other side. I believe the Al-Qaeda won lose in Libya unless the Libyan people worked together, backed their elected government and supported by their friends from Arab and western countries.
He is morom lt Col wood. Who do you. Think he is voting
