Far from declaring a winner last night, the Libertarian Party candidate who unsuccessfully tried to be the third-party on the debate stage declared that “Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are nibbling around the edges of the nation’s problems.”
“We don’t have time to nibble — we need to devour them,” said former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson.
“We didn’t see a debate tonight,” Johnson said in a statement today. “We saw two slightly differing versions of defending the Republican and Democrat status quo that has given us war after war after war, a $16 trillion debt, and a government that is the answer to everything.”
Johnson held a live response on YouTube during the debate.
“Nowhere was there a real plan for reducing government, balancing the budget any time in the foreseeable future, or a path that will actually put Americans back to work,” he said. “We heard two politicians arguing over which of their plans for government-run health care is less bad. We heard fantasies about balancing the budget while not reducing Medicare costs.”
The governor’s campaign also tweeted during the presidential debate: “Romneycare. Obamacare. Po-tay-to. Po-tah-to. No matter what you call it, it’s still the same thing.”
At one point, #GaryJohnsonForPresident was trending nationwide.
“Obama and Romney are the last politicians I would ever trust to discuss a big bold idea,” he tweeted. “Obama & Romney are fighting over how to NOT reduce Medicare costs, while balancing the budget. Lunacy. Lunacy. Lunacy.”
