Flashback: Joe Biden Was No Fan of a Health Care Mandate

BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski dug up this clip from 2008. Sen. Joe Biden was at the time still a candidate for the presidency and was speaking at a FamiliesUSA presidential forum. Listen to how he describes health care mandates.

BIDEN: I don’t like the word “mandate.” I don’t wanna make this hard. I wanna make this simple, and not susceptible to what some of the insurance companies and the right wing will argue this is: A mandated socialistic system.

As vice president, Biden would later not only sign on to a mandated socialistic system, his administration would cut back room deals with the pharmaceutical industry to get them to buy in to a plan which the Congress never read, and the American people were never allowed to see in full, before it became law. Biden would call the signing of that bill a “big f****** deal” before the entire country the day President Obama signed it.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of the ObamaCare individual mandate next week. Perhaps Vice President Joe Biden secretly hopes the court strikes it down.
