Abdurahman Alamoudi is among the “moderate” Muslims who infiltrated the corridors of power in Washington, mostly on the Republican side in his case, to empower Islamist groups that are not moderate at all. Pamela Gellar runs down Alamoudi’s history.
Alamoudi was an open supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah. In 2000, Alamoudi said at a rally, “I have been labeled by the media in New York to be a supporter of Hamas. Anybody support Hamas here? … Hear that, Bill Clinton? We are all supporters of Hamas. I wished they added that I am also a supporter of Hezbollah.” Alamoudi was at that time head of the now-defunct “moderate” group known as American Muslim Council (AMC), and he was active in other Muslim groups in the U.S. that showed sympathy to or support for jihadists.
He is currently serving time for his role in a Ghaddafi and al Qaeda plot to assassinate Saudi King Abdullah.
Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to cut the 23-year prison term being served by an American Muslim activist who admitted participating in a Libyan plot to assassinate King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.
Abdurahman Alamoudi, 59, of Falls Church has been in jail since his arrest in September 2003. He pleaded guilty to illegal business dealings with Libya and admitted receiving more than $500,000 in cash from Libyan officials as part of an assassination plot.
The government has filed papers arguing for Alamoudi’s early release from prison, but won’t tell the public why. The papers are under seal.
The AP story about this says that prosecutors tend to go back and ask for sentence reductions when a convict has provided substantial help in something. What support has Alamoudi provided, if any? Or is the release request intended to signal something to Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood as they ascend to power in the wake of the Arab Spring? These are federal prosecutors we’re talking about here, so ultimately they answer to AG Eric Holder.
