Video: Watch the Heatwave Burn up the Country

I don’t know about where you are, but it’s roughly 150 degrees here in Texas and it hasn’t rained since the Eisenhower administration. Hey, it’s July, so being hot and dry isn’t unusual. But we complain about it anyway, as we melt while walking the twenty steps from our cars to the frigid malls or wherever.

Here’s a NOAA movie that shows the heatwave spreading and turning the country red. You may need a tall glass of iced tea after watching it.

A shroud of high pressure has taken a foot-hold over the U.S. from the Plains to the Northeast, and with it has brought temperatures well into the 90’s and 100’s for half of the country. This animation shows the predicted daily high temperatures from NOAA’s high resolution North American Model (NAM) from July 13-21, 2011.

I might have to go grab a Whataburger shake.
