What did the Pakistanis know and when did they know it?

So King & Spalding have lost a potential client, and Pervez Musharraf is crying in his chai. I can’t be moved to pity either one. But I do want to know a few things about what happened in Abbottabad on Sunday.

Some reports place bin Laden’s compound within 700 meters or so of the Pakistan Military Academy, while others have it a few kilometers away. While that is being sorted out, it’s already clear that the compound was large and was in a major city, right off a major highway. Is there any way that Pakistan’s military and intelligence, or at least elements within, didn’t know that bin Laden was hiding out in what amounted to a large urban villa, in one of its country’s tourist destinations?

I don’t see a path to Pakistani innocence here.
