Texas House passes Voter ID bill

By the narrow margin of 101-48 after about 11 hours of floor debate (and years of acrimony). The Senate has already passed its version of the bill. It’ll get another perfunctory vote and then off to Gov. Perry’s desk for a signature. Polls have consistently shown that Texans support the bill.

In the 2009 legislative session, the Democrats filibustered the voter ID bill to death in the House. This time they tried derailing the bill again but just didn’t have the numbers to resist. And running off to Oklahoma again wouldn’t have done them any good.
