Arab world must confront Iran

Fox News reports Sec. State Hillary Clinton says the Arab world must confront Iran.

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that sanctions have slowed Iran’s efforts to develop atomic weapons and accused the country of trying to foment new conflict in the Middle East to distract attention from its nuclear ambitions.

On the first stop of a three-nation tour of the Persian Gulf, Clinton said the Arab world in particular should act to sharpen enforcement of the sanctions and reject attempts to stoke Mideast tensions. She also said Arab states had a special role to play in helping restart Israeli-Palestinian peace talks by promoting a broader Arab-Israeli settlement.

Someone certainly should. Unfortunately, the current administration doesn’t seem to have the testicular fortitude necessary to do so. Not that I’m sanguine about the Arab world’s willingness to do so either. Privately, the other nations in the area may be worried about Iran getting the bomb. But just as obviously, they’re too worried about Iran’s military prowess to actually do anything about it. Israel seems to be the only country in the Middle East with any guts, but our current administration isn’t about to let them handle it either. We keep muddling along doing nothing, and the first warning we’ll have about a nuclear Iran is when a bomb detonates over Tel Aviv.
