Trump Administration Turnover Is Just so Much Background Noise to Me

Here we go again. Or do we?

Just a little more than a week after President Trump "reassigned" Kristi Noem away from being the Secretary of Homeland Security, he didn't provide a soft landing option for Attorney General Pam Bondi and just flat-out fired her. Even the most ardent Trump supporters can be forgiven for feeling an uneasy sense of déjà vu over this news.

The Trump 45 administration was plagued by what seemed at times to be almost nonstop personnel turnover. This was due to a variety of factors, both internal and external. I think a big one was President Trump's adjustment from the private sector to the political world. I found it all to be annoying because it kept distracting him from doing a lot of things, or so it seemed to me. The reasons for that were quite varied, too, and none of them are in play now, which is why I don't worry anymore.

The Trump 45 and 47 administrations are different in too many ways to chronicle in just one column. Let's start at the top, though. Ever the astute businessman, President Trump learned a lot from his first term, as well as the lawfare crucible the Democrats forced him to endure from 2021 to 2025. He entered his first term with big, appealing ideas. He entered his second term with big, appealing ideas and detailed plans to make them all happen. I'm not saying that he didn't have plans in 2017 as well; it's just that he didn't know what kind of muck he was getting into with the federal bureaucracy.

Joining him at the top now is a vice president who isn't with him grudgingly. Mike Pence wasn't out there fiercely defending Trump whenever the vile creatures in the press were attempting character assassination on the president. JD Vance continues to make media hacks regret their choices. Add Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent into the mix, and it gives the president three heavy-hitters in his Cabinet whom he can count on to help keep the progress steady. Everyone in the administration is on the same page, but these three are the most adept at making a case for Trump's vision to the public.

Just because they're all on the same page doesn't mean that the man at the top has to be satisfied with their performances, hence the occasional shakeup. Trump is an exacting executive and doesn't have the patience for subpar work. It's best to strengthen the weak links in the chain as quickly as possible.

I've paid very little attention to why the president has soured on Noem or Bondi. Honestly, I tuned out of all things Kristi Noem a long time ago — there's just too much weird personal drama there. Obviously, he isn't as annoyed with her as he is with Pam Bondi, given the fact that Noem is still on the federal payroll. As I said in the headline, this is all just background noise to me. None of it is making the relentless focus that President Trump has had during this second term waver, and that's all I care about.

The hacks in the mainstream media will predictably read too much into Bondi's ouster. They're just background noise, too. Like a constantly-running toilet.
