It has been almost seven weeks since the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, and every public statement about it from federal law enforcement has been more than a bit difficult to take at face value.

As soon as I heard that the FBI report was still unable to determine the shooter's motive, I knew that I would need more than a grain of salt to believe anything in it.
