Kruiser's (Almost) Daily Distraction: Crowdsourcing a Sipping Booze Collection

Every time I write about books, movies, food, or any good adult recreational subjects, I get great recommendations from you astute VIP readers. You've inspired me to write more about books, movies, food, and now booze.

OK, this gift I received from my friend and colleague Chris Queen also inspired me:

Writers who have been at it for a while are rather fond of our grown-up liquor. Young writers often drink as well. However, just as with writing, they're still learning.

I freely admit I am not that adventurous when it comes to my preferences in spirits. I'm also sort of one-note when it comes to beer, preferring IPAs the majority of the time. Should I find myself in an Irish pub, however, I stick to the basics and enjoy a pint or ten of Guinness. I do sample a wide variety of local IPAs no matter where I am in this great country, though.

When it comes to liquor, I am devoted to my ancestral roots, drinking Polish potato vodka and Irish whiskey. Again, I'm not adventurous, so I keep to various iterations of Jameson most of the time when it comes to whiskey. When I really want to indulge myself, I sip some Red Breast, which is far and away my favorite of the Irish offerings.

Chris's gift got me thinking about moving outside the familiar, and starting a small collection of whiskey, bourbon, and sipping tequila. That's where all of you come in. All suggestions are welcome, and let's please keep the prices reasonable.

My thinking is that I will buy one or two new things a month and add them to the collection. It will be a few months before I begin the tasting. Also, I'm only interested in the above-mentioned spirits. I do like scotch, but I want to keep the focus narrow for this new hobby.

There isn't much in the way of Polish potato vodka in the United States, so there will be no collecting. I'll just be drinking that while I'm building up the new collection.
