The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit on Friday challenging a law enacted by Alabama last week that bans nearly all abortions and makes performing the procedure a felony punishable by up to 99 years in prison.
The lawsuit is one of several the groups have filed or are preparing to file against states that recently passed strict anti-abortion measures in an effort to prompt the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark case that guarantees a woman’s constitutional right to abortion.
“This dangerous, immoral, and unconstitutional ban threatens people’s lives and well-being and we are suing to protect our patients’ rights,” Leana Wen, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement.
The fact that anyone from the Planned Parenthood abortion mill conglomerate presumes to lecture on morality is the clearest sign of all that half of the electorate in America is in the throes of some darkly pathological insanity.
The challenges, in this case, are welcome, however, as they were always part of the plan:
Alabama state Senator Clyde Chambliss, a Republican, supports his state’s new law and said the whole point of the ban was “so that we can go directly to the Supreme Court to challenge Roe versus Wade.”
Most opinions about whether the Supreme Court would ever overturn Roe currently tend toward it not happening. We will never know unless it gets that far though.
Most pro-abortion people — especially the “Handmaid’s Tale” costume idiots — are completely ignorant as to how the Supreme Court works. They believe that any conservative justice can wave a wand and make Roe v. Wade just “poof!” into oblivion.
Alabama has thrown down the biggest pro-life gauntlet yet to move the actual judicial process along. Its new law has become a lightning rod for raging abortion lust. The liberal coastal enclaves are frothing, making sure that everyone knows they’re on the side of the “women’s health” liars.
These various legal challenges provide a couple of real bonuses to the pro-life side.
First, it moves things up the federal court pipeline which, as noted earlier, is the desired effect.
Second, it makes Planned Parenthood burn financial resources it would otherwise be spending on, you know, women’s health abortion mills.
Sue away, baby haters, sue away.
