Not everyone wants to be made to care about intersectional social justice insanity:

Full disclosure: I am a product of Catholic schools of yesteryear. Schools that were run by nuns rather than lay academics. The good sisters weren’t swayed by secular wants and desires.

Yahoo! News:

Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego are protesting a new anti-skirt policy that is supposed to encourage “modesty” and prevent male teachers from feeling “uncomfortable” while addressing violations.

Kevin Calkin, the principal at Cathedral Catholic High School, sent Yahoo Lifestyle a copy of the new policy, created as a last resort for students who don’t adhere to the knee-length minimum: “… The most significant change is that skirts will no longer be an option for girls. Dress code is a perennial challenge. The dress code exists for at least three good reasons: to foster unity, to encourage modesty, and to minimize pressure to conform to particular styles or clothing brands. Basically we hope to foster a faith-based environment where students are focused on learning and not on outward appearances.”

There’s enough secular feel-good malarkey in there to fill up an issue of The New Yorker. I keep mentioning secularism because the problem with many modern Catholic schools is that secular liberal policies are creeping in.

The real value in a Catholic education used to go beyond just learning — we weren’t at all like the public schools and that was the point of it the entire experience.

The lay principal at Cathedral Catholic offers a sop to “modesty” in an attempt to make this seem like it’s a morality-driven policy; it’s really just more caving to the madness that is the 21st century.

Altering the length of a skirt won’t change two truths: attractive girls will still be attractive and teenage boys are attracted to everything anyway.

Trust me, I was one.

This isn’t just a few teenage girls complaining either. The female students at Cathedral are rather passionate about this:

The administration’s view on the policy is based on the Third Wave Feminist lunacy that boys and girls are the same:

A school spokesperson tells Yahoo Lifestyle the revised dress code is a gender equalizer.

Female parents and students see things differently. One mother’s opinion:

If the reason the faculty cannot enforce the dress code is that male faculty are uncomfortable, then I suggest you find a way to have more than one teacher present and that you also consider training the male faculty to be able to deal with working with females. The message to the young women that they need to change to make men feel more comfortable is tone deaf and while I think CCHS is an excellent HS, I also think some of the messages to young women, including this one, reeks of patriarchal condescension

I am not always a big fan of “blame the patriarchy,” but she does have a point.

“Girls, you’re the problem here…” truly is tone deaf.

Oddly, it’s also a stunt that attempts to be forwardly progressive but manages only to take several steps backward.
