Brazil's President Signs Decree Easing Gun Restrictions for Citizens

While Democratic candidates in America are falling all over themselves to prove how badly they want to attack the rights of law-abiding citizens, Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro is going in the opposite direction for his people:

One can just feel the heavy implication in that tweet that maybe it’s a bad idea. My friend Jon Gabriel had the perfect retort to that:

Here’s more on from AFP (via Yahoo! News):

Brazil’s far-right President Jair Bolsonaro signed a decree Tuesday making it easier for gun enthusiasts to own, carry and import weapons in one of the world’s deadliest countries.

Beaming members of Congress and industry lobbyists clapped and made pistol signs with their hands as the ex-army captain relaxed rules that critics fear could pave the way for the carrying of weapons in the streets.

“I always said public security starts at home,” Bolsonaro told a gathering in the capital Brasilia.

Just how violent is the country? Really, really violent:

Brazil had 64,000 murders in 2017 — a rate of almost 31 per 100,000 inhabitants, or three times higher than the level the United Nations classifies as endemic violence.

The United States — we of ALL THE GUN VIOLENCE, according to the Democrats — averaged 5.3 murders per 100,000 during that same time.

Bolsonaro is also in favor of citizens being allowed to carry guns in public, but Brazilian law does not currently allow that.

Someone may want to pass these numbers along to Erica Swalwell.
