The baseball announcer who transcended sports and became a national treasure received America’s highest civilian honor from President Obama today. Vin Scully loves baseball, America, and the people who keep it free. He frequently and sincerely praised our troops during broadcasts, often spontaneously, always with profound gratitude. Fans feel that Vin deserves every honor he gets, but he is so humble that he’s probably embarrassed by this.
Don’t be, Vinny, you’re a great American.
