FLASHBACK: 'Stranger Things' Star Is So Thankful Her Mom Aborted Her Sibling

MASTERPIECE on PBS, BBC and Playground via AP

I'm going to make a confession: Back when I was teenager in the 1990s, I was a tiny bit obsessed with celebrity babies. Actually, I think I was obsessed with all things babies, but I digress. You could often find me poring over a People magazine or an Us Weekly to find out who was pregnant, who'd given birth, who had twins, and what the names were.

I shudder to think back on those days now — I can barely keep up with my own life these days, much less anyone else's, but more importantly, I grew up and largely outgrew my interest in the private and public lives of most Hollywood types. And thank goodness, because all of those sweet little infants grew up to become walking evidence that Hollywood weird is a hereditary condition. But I guess they never really stood a chance.

Every other celebrity daughter thinks she's a son, and every other son thinks he's a daughter. There's that Affleck kid who went to the United Nations in September and suggested that we should all wear masks all the time or something, because she suffers from long COVID. And I remember writing a few months ago about how Cynthia Nixon's son says he's starving himself for Gaza... inspired by his Jewish, Holocaust-surviving grandparents

And then there's Maya Hawke, daughter of actors Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, who is grateful that, more than anything, her mother was brave enough to murder her older sibling so that she can live the spoiled little life of luxury that she cherishes so much today. What a lovely Thanksgiving weekend message. A real human sacrifice!

This isn't particularly new news, but it's making the rounds again and worth re-sharing for those of us who missed it in 2022. The reason why it's reared its ugly little head is because Maya, who is now 27, stars in the hit Netflix show Stranger Things, and apparently, a new season or part of a new season just came out this past week.

The whole thing started in 2021 when Thurman wrote an essay for the Washington Post about her "darkest secret" in response to a Texas abortion law that she called a "crisis for American women."

In it she revealed that when she was in her late teens, she had an abortion. At the time, she said she didn't feel she could provide a good home to a child, and that doing so allowed her to give better lives for her current children — Maya, son Leon Hawke, and daughter Luna Thurman-Busson.

"Women and children of wealthy families retain all the choices in the world, and face little risk. I am grief-stricken, as well, that the law pits citizen against citizen, creating new vigilantes who will prey on these disadvantaged women, denying them the choice not to have children they are not equipped to care for, or extinguishing their hopes for the future family they might choose," she wrote.

Last time I checked, there were other options for women from all walks of life to not "have children they are not equipped to care for," but nobody asked me. Anyway...

Maya appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in June of the following year, and brought up the "beautiful essay" her mom wrote about her abortion.

"...if she hadn't have had it, she wouldn't have become the person she'd become, and I wouldn't exist, and how both of my parents' lives would have been totally derailed if she hadn't had access to safe and legal health care — fundamental health care," she said.

She added: "Of course, wealthy people will always be able to get abortions, but so many people will not only not be able to pursue their dreams, but lose their lives and be unsafe."

What in the brainwashing your children is this nonsense? It changed the direction of her mother's life? Of course, it did! Every single action you take may or may not impact your future. The fact that I took a different route to Chick-fil-a to pick up some lunch today could have shaped my future had their been an accident on the road I normally take. Say Thurman actually gave birth, gave that kid a chance at life, and either raised it or put it up for adoption. Who is to say that her life would have been any worse? It could have been better. It might have made her stronger, for example. It might have made her more determined to achieve a nice life for herself and her oldest child.

And don't give me the "I wouldn't exist" line. If her parents had sex on Tuesday instead of Wednesday, she wouldn't exist, either. It took a lot more than one abortion to bring young Maya into existence.

But what really got me was the "pursue their dreams" bit. As Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life, put it, "Women don’t need to end their babies’ lives in order to pursue their dreams." How sad is that the left has brainwashed a generation to think otherwise.

In the grand scheme of things, what some spoiled young woman who was raised in a Hollywood bubble says isn't all that important. I just finished writing about 89% of Cuba is facing extreme poverty and three epidemics. I'm a little more concerned with the welfare of these people than those who covet money and fame over the sanctity of life.

But I also can't pass up the chance to show how the indoctrinated young leftists are these days, especially when that message is going out to a boatload of children and young people who are big fans of this woman's TV show. Our culture is rotting.
