The World Mourns: Leaders From Around the Globe Speak Out on Charlie Kirk's Assassination

Something that struck me yesterday, after we learned about Charlie Kirk's assassination, was just how far the news reached and how upset people were not just within his orbit, but literally around the world. I heard from people whom I know personally who never speak out on politics  — they were upset and outraged, and rightfully so.

What shocked me even more was how many world leaders spoke out, either condemning the violence or honoring Kirk's life. On one hand, it was tremendous proof of the impact he had on this entire planet, not just the United States. It was also proof of just how important our country is, once again, on the world stage. Everyone's eyes are always upon us.

But, on the other hand, it was also embarrassing. Murdering political opponents is something that's more common in countries like Russia, Mexico, and Venezuela. If we're supposed to lead the world, how can we when this garbage is going on within our own borders?

We should be better than this: Silenced Voices and Sealed Coffins in Nicaragua.

And this: Mayoral Candidate Murdered During Livestream.

Some nations see us as a beacon, a guiding light. That's a good thing, but are we going to let them down? Are we going to show them that this 250-year-old exercise in liberty and freedom was not something to aspire to after all?

Others want to see our downfall. They want to see us destabilized and living in chaos. They're watching hungrily, and situations like what we experienced as a nation on Wednesday prove to them that it's happening.

With that in mind, I thought I'd round up and post some of the messages from around the world to share with you — to show just how significant yesterday was. I am heartbroken for Kirk's family and friends, but yesterday was much bigger than just the murder of a single man. It was a turning point for our nation. In which direction we go from here is anyone's guess, but every one of these statements just proves that the world is watching and waiting.

President of Argentina Javier Milei

(Translated from Spanish):

My condolences to the family of Charlie Kirk and to all the young people in the world who admired him and listened to him. A formidable disseminator of the ideas of freedom and staunch defender of the West. He was the victim of an atrocious murder in the midst of a wave of left-wing political violence across the entire region. The left is always, at all times and places, a violent phenomenon full of hatred. The entire world lost an incredible human being. Goodbye.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán

El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele

Bukele didn't necessarily give a tribute, aside from reposting one of Kirk's X posts, but he did call out MNSBC for its vile coverage. Actually, notice how many of these leaders don't shy away from calling out the left for being hateful and violent. It's nice to see.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Netanyahu was one of the first world leaders whom I saw respond to the situation.  Initially, he posted that he was praying for Kirk, but upon learning of his death, he had this to say:

Italian President Giorgia Meloni

(Translated from Italian):

I am shocked by the news of the killing of Charlie Kirk, a young and followed Republican activist.

An atrocious murder, a deep wound for democracy and for those who believe in freedom.

My condolences to his family, to his loved ones, and to the American conservative community.

Poland's President Karol Nawrocki

Venezuelan Opposition Leader María Corina Machado

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer

I hesitated to post this one because, wow, the irony and/or lack of self-awareness:

Nigel Farage, Member of British Parliament and the Leader of ReformUK

Here's more from the U.K.

Kemi Badenoch, Member of British Parliament and the Leader of the Conservative Party

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney

(Translated from French) "I am appalled by the murder of Charlie Kirk. Nothing justifies political violence, and any act of this kind threatens democracy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, his friends, and his loved ones."

Pierre Poilievre, Member of the Canadian House of Commons and Leader of the Conservative Party
