Lieberman - "A Petitioning Democrat"

According to Joe Lieberman’s campaign manager Sean Smith, if the Senator loses the Connecticut Democratic primary, he will run as a “petitioning Democrat.” That’s a new one on me. And I think it’s basically campaign palaver not to make it seem as if Joe’s prematurely abandoning the Democratic Party. Actually the party has long ago abandoned him and many of us long-time Democrats as well. I hope if that scenario comes to pass, Lieberman runs as a full-bore Independent. That word has a nice ring to it to me. Independent… And, hey, tomorrow’s Independence Day. Go for it, Joe.
