Is Experience Over-Rated?

I’ve always wondered about that. Orson Welles had no experience as a feature film director when he made Citizen Kane at 25! Arthur Rimbaud quit writing poetry at the age of 21. Of course these are artistic geniuses with a gift arguably more rare than that required for being a judge; yet now we are hearing from several quarters, right and left, that Bush nominee Harriet Miers does not have the experience to serve on the Supreme Court. I’m not certain, but for once I believe I am in agreement with Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid who says he is glad Ms. Miers has no judicial experience.
