Nikon and Canon have been in a knock-down-drag-out fight in the DSLR market for a years now and the winner has been the consumer as features mount and image quality grows. Nikon’s new D5100 in the mid-to-low range cost category comes out this month and sounds great in this early review with a 16.2MP CMOS sensor, 1080P high def and an optional mini-shotgun mic for improved sound. All this for $899 with the kit zoom lens. If you’re an early adopter (not me, he says), it’s already available on Amazon. (Actually, I’m tempted. Time to upgrade the old D-70, one of the original DSLRs.)
