Democrats: D is for Disingenous

The brief article in The Hill yesterday quoted by Glenn – Kanjorski says Dems were insincere about ending war – is almost too obvious to comment upon. Glenn doesn’t bother but I will, because this “insincerity” is the essence of why I no longer consider myself a Democrat. A party that could be that dishonest about such a crucial situation is repellent. And it’s worse now with Obama’s fake palaver about Iraq and Iran, every word built on getting himself elected. I haven’t fallen in love with the Republicans, not by a long shot, but the current version of the Democrats (other than Lieberman) gives me the creeps. They should actually give themselves the creeps when they read what Kanjorski said. But evidently they don’t. The Congressman himself panicked, walking back on his own one moment of honesty by saying:

‚ÄúIn an August 2007 town meeting, I shared the frustration of my constituents that the war in Iraq continued,” he said. “I expressed my belief that some Democrats in 2006 overestimated the ability of a single house of Congress to end the war, particularly in the face of an intransigent President and Senate Republicans who are committed to continuing the war.”

There’s a great French idiom for that: Mentir est honteux. Lying is shameful.
