Former CAIR Official Says ‘I Demand Jihad,’ Calls for Killing of Jews

This is a time of tremendous clarity, cutting against years, and indeed, decades of deception. Just a few years ago, you could be deplatformed and silenced altogether for suggesting that the 2020 presidential election was not entirely on the up-and-up, or that Anthony Fauci was maybe not the selfless hero of media myth, or that men could not actually become women. At least for now, however, it seems as if the tide of madness has crested, and that sanity is beginning to return on a large scale. The left is helping that process along by the left’s tendency to continue to reveal its true face. One revolting incident in New York City recently was an indication of this marvelous new habit leftists have of stepping on rakes.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) claims to be “America’s largest Muslim civil rights organization.” It adds, improbably, that it works to “protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.”

In light of this, CAIR was understandably embarrassed when video started circulating of a woman in New York City in the throes of an antisemitic meltdown. She assaulted a Jewish man and screamed: “I demand jihad, I want ISIS to kill all of you.” Shalash was identified is or was the Director of Government Affairs for CAIR-Kentucky, whereupon the Hamas-linked organization was outraged.

The national office posted on X: “This is a lie. This person has not worked with our CAIR-KY chapter in FIVE years. She has no role at our civil rights group. We condemn and reject the antisemitic comments in the video, just as we condemn and reject anti-Palestinian racism and anti-Muslim hate. Racism is wrong, no matter the source or the target.”

Strong words, but the CAIR statement itself was false, at least in part. Another X user posted a photo that CAIR itself published on Oct. 1, 2020, with the caption: “CAIR-KY was recently invited to meet with Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers. Representing CAIR-KY were CAIR-KY Board members: Dr. Salah Shakir, Dr. Nadia Rasheed, Dr. Dina Rasheed and Noora Shalash (CAIR-KY Dtr. Gov. Affairs). Senator Reginald Thomas also attended the meeting.” The poster commented: “The photo was published on the 1st October 2020. That would make it four years ago. When did Noora Shalash leave your organisation?”

Maybe CAIR just had a faulty memory. Maybe it intended to be as honest as the day is long. Noora Shalash, however, is not by any means the first CAIR official to express hatred of Jews. The most notorious example of this is the organization’s national leader, Nihad Awad, CAIR’s cofounder and longtime executive director. Awad said in Nov. 2023 that Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 jihad massacre of 1,200 Israelis made him “happy.” That was too much even for the Biden regime, which summarily dropped CAIR from a White House antisemitism task force. Of course, CAIR should never have been part of that task force in the first place, but such is the madness of our age.

Joining Shalash and Awad is Zahra Billoo, executive director of CAIR’s San Francisco Bay Area chapter  Back in Nov. 2021, Billoo delivered a venomously antisemitic speech in which she told her Muslim audience to “oppose the vehement fascist, but oppose the polite Zionist too.” She warned against even far-left Jewish groups such as the ADL, despite the ADL’s demonization of Jews and friends of Israel who note honestly the nature and magnitude of the jihad threat. Billoo declared: “We need to pay attention to the Anti-Defamation League. We need to pay attention to the Jewish Federation. We need to pay attention to the Zionist synagogues. We need to pay attention to the Hillel chapters on our campuses because just because they are your friends today, doesn’t mean that they have your back when it comes to human rights.” CAIR officials have also repeatedly refused to denounce Hamas and Hizballah as terrorist groups.

The frequently expressed antisemitism of CAIR leaders ought to move patriotic politicians, as well as all government and law enforcement officials, to shun this unsavory organization. The time for willful ignorance is over. Noora Shalash, whatever her current or recent employment status, should be a wake-up call. But whether or not she will be remains to be seen.
