Biden Rewards State Dept Wonk Who Oversaw Disastrous Afghan Withdrawal with a Nice Promotion

It’s really very simple: if you do a good job, you get a pat on the back, and maybe a promotion, a raise, or even an award. And if you botch the job you were given to do, you might find yourself getting a pay cut or even sharpening up your resume and starting to schedule interviews. At least that’s the way it’s supposed to work.

In the Biden regime, however, the more officials fail, the more they get rewarded. One might almost get the idea that failure was the goal all along. One could certainly be forgiven for suspecting as much in the case of Tracey Jacobson, whom the Biden regime has nominated to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Iraq.

Tracey Jacobson, you see, was the Biden regime wonk in charge of the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program. SIVs were issued to people in Afghanistan who helped American personnel during our nation’s long misadventure there. These people should have been given top priority for getting out of Afghanistan during the debacle of the fall of 2021. Instead, the Daily Mail reported Saturday that “as many as 150,000 U.S. allies were left behind and are still waiting to escape.”

Back in September 2021, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro “Shoulda Been Impeached” Mayorkas admitted that most of the Afghans who were brought over here after the catastrophically botched withdrawal from Afghanistan weren’t SIV holders at all.

“Of the over 60,000 individuals who have been brought into the United States” at that time, Mayorkas said, “and I will give you approximate figures and I will verify them, approximately 7 percent have been United States citizens. Approximately 6 percent have been lawful permanent residents. Approximately 3 percent have been individuals who are in receipt of the Special Immigrant Visas.”

It was Jacobson’s job to get the SIV holders over here. She was “in charge of a whole-of-government effort to process, transport, and relocate Afghan Special Immigrant Visa applicants and other Afghan allies.” Instead, only 3% of the Afghans the Biden regime brought over actually had an SIV. Nice job, Jacobson! In a sane administration, she would have been fired long ago. But in this one, they have just nominated her to be America’s representative in Baghdad.

Retired Army Lt. Colonel Scott Mann, who likely remembers when the army was devoted to winning wars and not wholly devoted to Critical Race Theory and drag shows, stated, “The U.S. State Department role” — that is, Jacobson’s role — “in all of this has been a colossal embarrassment and this promotion is just another slap in the face to the veteran population.”

Yet “instead of being held to account and relieved her duties [Jacobson] was promoted.” Mann is well aware of what should have been done, for he did what Jacobson should have been doing, or at very least overseeing: he “led Operation Pineapple Express — a mission which evacuated hundreds of Afghan allies during the Taliban takeover in 2021.”

As tone deaf as ever, Biden’s White House wonks “touted Jacobson's experience in the Senior Foreign Service and in the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in the post announcing her nomination.” They noted proudly that Jacobson “has had a 'distinguished' career serving in multiple senior diplomatic roles overseas as well as on the National Security Council.” They didn’t mention the small matter of abandoning as many as 150,000 people who put their lives on the line to help the United States.

Not everyone is thrilled by the appointment. Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.), wrote, “No words… Tracey Jacobson Abandoned Our Afghan Allies. Now She’s Getting a Promotion.” Hey, congressman, it’s Old Joe Biden’s world. We just live in it, and by no means do we do so rent-free.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) agreed with Waltz, stating:

I am extremely frustrated that the Biden administration continues to reward and promote those who played a role in the catastrophic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. Tracy Jacobson failed American veterans and our Afghan allies when she and the Biden administration abandoned hundreds of thousands of our Afghan allies. If she is allowed to become the next U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, the Democratic U.S. Senate will be telling the American people – and the world – that there is no such thing as accountability or justice in the Biden administration.

Well, of course, there isn’t. After three years of this, that’s quite clear. It’s also an open question: did Jacobson really fail? Surely even the Biden regime wouldn’t have been so anti-American as to have wanted her to do what she did, would it? Would it?
