Minneapolis Mayor Silenced by Anti-Police Protesters at Press Conference

Scott Johnson of Powerline just about sums it up: “The whole world is watching our clown show.”

For an excruciating 17 minutes at a press conference announcing the firing of Janee Harteau, the city’s lesbian police chief, over the death of an Australian woman who dialed 911 for help but was fatally shot by police, Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges endured the spectacle of anti-police protesters screaming for her to resign. She tried reason, she tried to empathize with the radicals, but since she was stupid enough to let the protesters into the press conference in the first place, she suffered the consequences on national TV.

The Hill:

Protesters shouting for Hodges’ resignation forced the mayor into silence at the press conference, demanding changes to the police department that has “terrorized” the city.

“We ask you for your prompt resignation. We don’t want you as our mayor of Minneapolis anymore,” a man said during her press conference as Hodges looked on.

“We are asking you that you take your staff with you,” he added. “We don’t want you to appoint anybody anymore. Your leadership has been very ineffective, and if you don’t remove yourself, we’re going to put somebody in place to remove you.”

Cameras quickly turned away from the mayor and continued covering the protesters.

“Your police force has terrorized the city enough. Your press conference is ineffective because you won’t let the people in. And you didn’t want to hear us, so you hear me now,” he continued.

“We do not want you as our mayor of Minneapolis, and we’re asking you to resign,” the man added as people began to cheer.

The mayor began to speak but was drowned out by protesters. Cameras remained focused on the protesters as the mayor attempted to regain control of the briefing.

“I hear and understand,” the mayor interjected while protesters drowned her out. “For folks listening, I hear and understand.

Harteau resigned in a statement Friday, saying that “the recent incidents do not reflect the training and procedures we’ve developed as a department.”

“I’ve decided I am willing to step aside to let a fresh set of leadership eyes see what more can be done for the M.P.D. to be the very best it can be,” Harteau said. “The city of Minneapolis deserves the very best.”

Hodges referenced the chief’s resignation earlier in the press briefing before it was shut down by demonstrators.

The sight of diversity’s children eating their parents must have been painful for many of the far-left liberals in Minneapolis who have helped make the city into a bastion of political correctness. Mohamed Noor, the officer who shot a young, white Australian woman, Justine Damond, is a Somali immigrant — part of an invasion of refugees welcomed by radical leftist city leaders. That has led to an increase in violent crime and several terrorist cells that were broken up before they could complete their missions.

Minneapolis native Tom Lifson:

The city I grew up in has been radically transformed, with approximately one hundred thousand Somalis imported through a State Department initiative taken because of the state’s generous welfare expenditures. An entire African, Muslim community was grafted onto what had been the most heavily Caucasian major metropolitan area in the country. Perhaps the first ever diversity graft onto an American metropolis, engineered by the federal government.

I can only hope that the worldwide attention the story of the shooting of pretty, blonde, Australian immigrant Justine Damond by Somali immigrant cop Mohammed Noor opens the door to exposing the PC madness that has exposed Minneapolis to worldwide ridicule.

Betsy Hodges is considered by some to be one of the worst big-city mayors in the country. The way she has handled the controversy surrounding the shooting of Justine Damond confirms that analysis.
