BREAKING Israeli forces join efforts to end siege by Somali militants at Nairobi shopping mall
Haaretz has more details. “Israeli forces have reportedly joined efforts to end a deadly siege by Somali militants at a Kenyan shopping mall, a security source told AFP Sunday. “The Israelis have just entered and they are rescuing the hostages and the injured,” AFP quoted the source as saying on condition he not be named.
But the situation is confused. The Israeli Foreign Ministry neither confirms nor denies the IDF is in action. There is the possibility the “Israelis” are hostage negotiation consultants. No collateral confirmation for the AFP report.
The Guardian is now reporting the Kenyans are receiving “advice” on the siege from Israeli and UK agencies, which would suggest they are snaking in fiber optics or other imagers or are perhaps crafting a sequence rather than providing the actual entry force.
The Kenyan President will shortly address the public.
No new reports have emerged nor any obvious action since a burst of gunfire was heard some hours ago.
