Ayatollah Khamenei, the supreme leader of the Islamic regime in Iran, went public late Thursday calling the assassination of the Iranian nuclear scientist, Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, the work of CIA and Mossad.
According to the Fars News Agency, Khamenei stated that Iran’s nuclear program is not dependent on any individual and that the nuclear work will continue. He pledged that those who committed this crime will be brought to justice.
Khamenei went on to say, “This cowardly act of terror, whose perpetrators and plotters will never dare to confess to their dirty and hideous crime or accept responsibility for it, has been carried out with the planning or support of the CIA and Mossad intelligence services, like all other crimes of the network of international state terrorism.”
The Ayatollah added that the assassination attempt verifies that “the global arrogance, spearheaded by the U.S. and Zionism, has reached a deadlock in the confrontation with the determined, devout, and progressive nation of Islamic Iran.”
On January 11, an unknown motorcyclist attached a magnetic bomb to the scientist’s car near a college building of Allameh Tabatabaei University in Tehran. Ahmadi Roshan, the deputy director of marketing at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, was killed instantly and his driver died a few hours later in hospital from his injuries.
This was the fourth Iranian nuclear scientist killed in a similar fashion in the past two years. On November 29, 2010, Majid Shahriari and Fereydoun Abbasi were targeted by terrorist attacks; Shahriari was killed immediately and Abbasi, the current director of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, sustained injuries.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guards also issued a statement strongly condemning the assassination, declaring that no amount of terror will stop Iran’s holy nuclear program.
The Iranian state media close to former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the Aftab News, put out a report indicating that there is an unprecedented readiness for retaliation against Israel and the West. The report continues that, based on an analysis Iranian intelligence community, “there is no doubt that Israel, America, and England were behind this assassination.” It then quotes a source within Iranian intelligence stating that Iran’s response “will know no borders and it will reach beyond our region making sure those involved in these acts will not feel secure at any time!” The source added that Iran will enter a new phase of intelligence operation against its enemies, in which, he indicated, “Iran has great expertise.”
Sources within Iran reported that the purpose for President Ahmadinejad’s trip to Latin America was to press forward with plans of terrorist activities against Israel and America’s interest using the Quds forces stationed in Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba.
