Sen. Marco Rubio is standing up for Cuban-Americans, many of whom are his constituents, and is saying that President Obama’s Fidel Castro-sympathetic statement is “pathetic.” He reminded CNN that Castro was a dictator and an executioner, a tyrant who treated his people very poorly. The CNN host then tried to trip the senator up, by asking about Pope Francis’ support for the Cuban leader, and Rubio remained steadfast. He said that, as a a Catholic, he respects the pope’s statements on all matters of faith but doesn’t necessarily need to be in lockstep with the pontiff on foreign affairs. Can you imagine a journalist asking this question of President Kennedy, who was also a religious Catholic?
