Lindsey Graham Changes Course: 'We May Have to Rally Around Ted Cruz'

Senator Lindsey Graham has done an about-face on the topic of presidential hopeful and Senate colleague Ted Cruz.

It was only last week that the South Carolina senator was joking(?) about how hated Cruz is among his Senate colleagues.

“If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you,” said Graham at the Washington Press Club Foundation’s 72nd Congressional Dinner.

But when faced with a possible Trump nomination by the GOP, Graham has done the unthinkable.

While speaking with Charlie Rose on CBS Tuesday night, Graham said, “Ted Cruz is not my favorite by any means, but … we may be in a position where we have to rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump.”

Graham’s remarks come following Cruz’s three-state victory on Super Tuesday, placing him in second place in the delegate roundup for the GOP nomination. Graham went on to characterize Trump as a “race-baiting, xenophobic bigot” and predicted a Trump loss to presumptive democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.

“We are in a demographic death spiral,” he said.
