A new phishing scam is sweeping the web today. Beware of emails any from one of your acquaintances asking you to click on the link to read a Google Doc. Possibly millions are receiving them as part of a new scam to collect personal information. If you do click on the link, it will take you to a screen listing all your Google accounts, and the link to go to Google Docs. When you click again it will give a third party access to your Google email and address books.
Google issued the following statement:
We have taken action to protect users against an email impersonating Google Docs, and have disabled offending accounts. We’ve removed the fake pages, pushed updates through Safe Browsing, and our abuse team is working to prevent this kind of spoofing from happening again. We encourage users to report phishing emails in Gmail.
