Having trouble using some of your favorite online services and devices today? You’re not alone. Users of Google Home, Chromecast, and Slack have all reported major outages, and while the Slack issue seems to have been resolved, Google Home and Chromecast are still offline for many users.
@madebygoogle Hey Google, Google Home Mini and Chrome Cast are not working at all. Any workaround on this? #googlehome #chromecast #glitch pic.twitter.com/3NJZOgIYMB

#Slack's been down for a while and it occurred to me. It's probably taking a long time for a whole bunch of people to work together on a fix, because Slack is down. 🤔

Saying “Hey Google” to your device is currently being answered with: “There was a glitch, try again in a few seconds” or “Hmm… something went wrong, try again in a few seconds.”
Google told TechCrunch that the outage is affecting “some” users of Google Home and Chromecast, though they refused to say how widespread the problem is. Chromecast users noticed the problem in the early hours of Wednesday, reporting that the Chromecast icon disappeared from streaming apps. Individuals who were able to reach customer support were told that it was a global issue.
Slack took to Twitter to keep users in the loop:
We're investigating connectivity issues for all workspaces, thanks for your patience, we'll have updates shortly. https://t.co/uQIDJzyLSV
— Slack (@SlackHQ) June 27, 2018
We think we've isolated the issue, and we're getting close to a resolution. Thanks for hanging in there. https://t.co/uQIDJzyLSV

Folks should be able to connect to Slack again. We're sorry for the disruption. https://t.co/uQIDJzyLSV

Google was a little less forthcoming about the issues:
Hey there, sorry for the trouble. We don't have a time frame, but rest assured that our team is working hard to have this fixed — we'll let you know once we have an update. Thanks for bearing with us.

Some Twitter users suggested the problem may be related to a recent security patch:
Actually they were trying to fix an update regarding some Location Privacy on all the Google home devices and something didn't work properly and here we are. None of the Google Home devices are working.

Google declined to confirm that information when contacted by TechCrunch, but said, “We’re aware of an issue affecting some Google Home and Chromecast users. We’re investigating the issue and working on a solution.”
Slack users, incidentally, reported either an increase in productivity or a near-fiery conflagration as a result of the outage (if you’re a Slack user you know exactly what they’re talking about):

Since Slack’s been down I’ve written 2 bestsellers, won an Oscar for Best Original Screnplay, launched a cannabis lifestyle site & founded a dog sanctuary. What’s everyone else been up to?

No doubt there was a lot of this happening today too:
