Watch Keith Urban's New Year's Eve Tribute to Musicians We Lost in 2016

Keith Urban, performing in Nashville for CNN’s New Year’s Eve program, gave a beautiful tribute to some of the important musicians the world lost in 2016. He began with an acoustic version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” followed by Glenn Frey’s “Take It Easy.” When he transitioned to David Bowie’s “Heroes,” the crowd cheered as Urban’s wife, Nicole Kidman, joined him on stage, singing along to the familiar Bowie lyrics. Next, Urban, whose wheelhouse is country music, performed a tribute to country legend Merle Haggard, followed by Prince’s “Purple Rain.”

Update: An astute reader pointed out in the comments that Urban actually began with George Michael’s “Careless Whisper.” CNN didn’t include that part in their coverage. Here’s a video with the song included at the beginning:

Keith Urban's last song before midnight was this awesome tribute. Loved seeing Nicole Kidman join him onstage!

Urban’s tribute almost—almost—made up for Mariah Carey’s awful lip sync fail.
