Former Vice President Joe Biden, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, said unions have “worked like hell” to negotiate good health care plans and promised workers that they will be able to keep those insurance plans if he’s elected.
Other Democratic candidates like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have proposed a Medicare for all single-payer health care system that would eliminate private insurance. While pitching the Affordable Care Act to the public before its passage, President Obama said that “if you like your plan you can keep it.” Ultimately, millions of Americans saw their health insurance plans cancelled due to the rules and regulations of Obamacare.
“In my plan you get to keep it. You don’t have to give it up,” the former vice president said on Wednesday at the Iowa Federation of Labor conference. “You’ll be able to keep your negotiated plan. You’ve worked like hell, you gave up wages for it and it’s better.”
Biden said he wants to expand Obamacare with a “Medicare option” if he becomes president.
Biden also told union workers that there would be no trade agreement in his administration “without organized labor sitting at the table.”
“God love you. I need you. Look me over. I promise you will never have a better friend in the White House,” he said.
