As news broke that abortion activists sent threatening calls, mail, and email to the office of Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) called on Democrats to denounce all threats of political violence. Collins’ office has gone public about various threats they received, profanity-laced voicemail messages, a caller who wished rape on a staffer, and weird letters warning about waitresses spitting in Collins’ food…
“There is absolutely no place in our politics for threats and acts of violence against people you disagree with,” Scalise told PJ Media on Wednesday. “What makes America great is our ability to freely and openly debate our differences, but we do it civilly and settle our differences at the ballot box.”
The congressman, whose life hung in the balance last year after he was shot at a practice for the Congressional Baseball Game, called on Democrats to loudly condemn any and all threats and violence.
“Democrats need to speak out loudly and firmly against the violence and threats coming from the left right now. It needs to stop,” Scalise declared.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), another Republican caught up in the shooting last year, received a threat from a man saying he would “kill me and chop up my family with an ax.” Democrats have also mocked Paul for getting attacked from behind by his neighbor.
As Scalise spoke to PJ Media, Collins’ Director of Communications Annie Clark sent PJ Media picture evidence and audio recordings of threats the senator received regarding the upcoming vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
“Don’t be a dumb c*nt,” one voicemail message began. “If you care at all about women’s choice, vote no on Kavanaugh. Don’t be a dumb b*tch. F*ck you, also.”
This voicemail proved rather tame compared to others.
One caller attacked Collins, citing the reports that Kavanaugh had told her Roe v. Wade is “settled law.”
“He f*cking lied to you. How f*cking naive that you have to be to believe him … You are so f*cking naive,” a man’s voice declared. “If you vote for him, you are a feckless, feckless, feckless woman …F*ck you, f*ck you, you wonder why people call you naive when you believe f*cking Mitch McConnell …”
“F*ck you, how f*cking naive are you, how fu*king naive do you think we are? You are so fucking naive,” the caller added. “You will go down in history as the most naive person ever to be in Congress. You f*cking f*cking feckless naive woman. F*ck you! F*ck you! F*ck you!”
Lovely…
Then came a letter with a rather odd and explicit threat. “If you vote for Kavanaugh, EVERY waitress who serves you is going to spit in your food, and that’s if you’re lucky, you f*cking C*NT!” the letter read. “Think of that at every meal!”

Clark shared the worst attack with The New York Times. “Another caller told one of Collins’s 25-year-old female staffers that he hoped she would be raped and impregnated,” Newsweek‘s Ramsey Touchberry reported, citing the Times.
Abortion activists have also attempted to bribe Collins to vote against Kavanaugh, creating a crowdfunding effort that will spend money to support a potential opponent in 2020, but will refund the money if Collins opposes Kavanaugh.
“Bribery will not work on Senator Collins. Extortion will not work on Senator Collins. And anybody who thinks these tactics would work on Senator Collins obviously doesn’t know her,” Annie Clark told PJ Media.
“This crowdedfunded money to pressure her is based on a quid pro quo — you vote the way we want and we will keep more than a million dollars away from your opponent — vote against us and we give her the money. It is basically a bribe,” Clark explained.
“Senator Collins will make up her mind based on the merits of the nomination. Threats or other attempts to bully her will not play a factor in her decision making whatsoever,” the spokeswoman concluded.
While Collins’s office has received threats — and Democrats have unleashed malicious lies against Kavanaugh — the worst threats seem to have fallen on less prominent conservatives.

As PJ Media’s Deb Heine noted, just this past week there have been a number of attacks: a truck rammed into a Fox News affiliate, a knife-wielding man attacked a Republican congressional candidate in California, a tweet threatened mass murder against a gathering of Trump supporters in Washington, D.C., and an arsonist attacked a GOP office.
These are only a few examples of such political violence, prompted by the wild accusations of Trump supporting white supremacy, fascism, and Nazism. Trump is far from perfect, but that does not justify threats or violence against him, his supporters, or members of his party.
Democrats do indeed need to come out and condemn these horrific threats.
