Ron DeSantis: If Dems Win 2018, They Will Impeach Trump Over Anything, Even NFL Tweets

On Monday, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) warned Americans against electing a Democratic majority in Congress this November. If Democrats take the House of Representatives, they will attempt to impeach President Donald Trump, on any leftist issue they can find.

“I do think that they would move to try to impeach the president. On what? I have no idea, but I have seen them try to force votes on those resolutions this year in the Congress, trying to impeach him over things like his tweeting or him criticizing the NFL players for kneeling,” DeSantis told Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo.

“It’s preposterous,” he added.

Indeed, last September, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) announced that Democrats would hold a vote on impeachment after President Trump said he would “love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He’s fired.'”

“This is a level of indecency that is unbecoming the presidency,” Green declared, announcing his decision to lead an impeachment against Trump.

In October, Green submitted a 15-page document entitled “Articles of Impeachment Against Donald John Trump.” The document cited numerous Trump tweets, and called for the president’s impeachment over “disparaging” remarks against NFL players, Puerto Ricans, Muslims, LGBT people, and former President Barack Obama.

Perhaps ironically, the document did not mention Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey, and it did not argue that Trump is guilty of obstruction of justice or any other crime.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said “there is no law” on impeachment. A poll last May found that most Americans supporting impeachment said Trump is innocent of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

While Green attempted to impeach Trump, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has refrained from pushing for such a course. However, DeSantis suggested that if Pelosi became Speaker of the House yet again, she would do so.

“What Nancy would do is she would want to raise taxes, which would obviously hurt the economic progress we’ve made, and they would want to continue to allow pretty much unfettered illegal immigration … and they would do non-stop investigations of the Trump administration,” DeSantis predicted.

He suggested that Democrats would push “preposterous” excuses to impeach Trump, and Republicans would actually help Americans live better lives.

“The American people need to ask, okay, do you want a majority that is intent on actually focusing on the kitchen table issues which I think the Republicans would, or do you want to go off on this leftward veer with somebody like Nancy Pelosi, whom you overwhelmingly rejected in 2010?” the congressman asked.

DeSantis has represented Florida in Congress since 2013, and he temporarily jumped into the 2016 U.S. Senate race. He is currently running for Florida’s governorship.

Pelosi has insisted that she would continue to lead the Democrats if they win the House in November. Republicans have attacked her in numerous campaign ads, and such ads arguably helped Karen Handel defeat Democrat golden boy Jon Ossoff in the Georgia 6 special election last year. Pelosi has resurrected the 2006 Democrat slogan for the 2018 elections, campaigning against Republican “corruption, cronyism, and incompetence.”

Following Obama’s many scandals and Democrat calls to impeach Trump over his Twitter account, this slogan seems particularly ill-fitted to the Democrats’ cause this year.
