Vegan Activists Bully Butcher Shop Into Placing Animal Rights Sign in Window

The left is supposedly anti-bullying. After all, one of the charges routinely leveled at Donald Trump is that he’s a bully. Bullying is bad, right?

Well, apparently it’s not if you’re a Leftist and bullying can help advance your cause. Which is exactly what happened to a butcher shop in Berkeley, CA.

The owners of Local Butcher Shop already looked like they had done everything they could to appease the liberal Berkeley crowd. After all, they only sell “locally sourced, sustainably raised” meat, which is in line with what a lot of progressives expect out of their food.

Unfortunately, they still sold meat.

So vegan activists staged monthly demonstrations outside the store, harassing and bullying the owners and customers.

In order to protect the business, the shop now has a sign in its window that reads:

ATTENTION: Animals’ lives are their right. Killing them is violent and unjust, no matter how it’s done.

And people wonder why omnivores like me can’t stand vegans. Co-owner Monica Rocchino told the Guardian:

To be threatened and forced to abide by their beliefs just makes me sad … Their tactics are really extremist … This is ethical extortion.

Look, eat what you want to eat for whatever reason you want to eat it. You think eating animals is cruel, despite the fact that we’re biologically designed to be predators, so be it. I don’t care if you’re looking forward to a nice slice of Tofurkey this Thanksgiving instead of the big, juicy bird the rest of us plan on chowing down on. I really don’t.

But they refuse to extend the same tolerance they expect us to have for them.

Imagine if a pro-meat group began protesting a vegan establishment. They’d be up in arms about how they should be allowed to live their lives as they see fit. Vegans should extend the same courtesy to others.

The Rocchinos had reached out to try to find a solution. What did the vegan activists want?

Direct Action Everywhere leaders eventually said they would end the protests if the shop agreed to become a “vegan butcher” that did not sell any meat, or if they canceled classes.

In other words, they demanded the butcher shop not be a butcher shop. This was bullying, plain and simple. But that’s the leftist playbook in a nutshell, isn’t it?
