Hillary’s Hollywood Posse Says Take Off Your Shirt, Starlet (But Step Away From the Director’s Chair) 

Liberal Hollywood men effectively form a secret society that blackballs anyone with more natural estrogen than Caitlyn Jenner, keeping them from becoming director of a major motion picture.

We learn this from liberal female columnist Maureen Dowd, writing in the liberal New York Times Magazine. She’s alarmed that less than 2 percent of the top 100 movies boast a female director.

Of course, Dowd doesn’t blame it on liberals, but rather on the corporate suits who hate females so much they apparently reject opportunities to make millions of dollars on successful films, merely out of misogynistic spite.

And the corporate suits blame it on foreigners, since 70 percent of the box office take of a typical blockbuster comes from foreign distribution these days. Those foreigners (especially Japanese and Russian) love them some testosterone-rich action films, and shrivel at the sight of a female hero on the silver screen.

Since a hacker sprung an email leak at Sony Pictures in 2014 — revealing, for example, that Jeremy Renner made more than Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams for American Hustle— it’s become clear that one of the last bastions of condoned, in-your-face sexism is the place where progressives, liberals and Democrats have worked diligently to craft a culture that will finally elect America’s first woman president.

That’s right: Hillary Clinton’s Hollywood posse is an old-boy’s network that openly discriminates against women. Or, so says the liberal columnist at the liberal New York Times.

The sexism runs deep and broad, says Dowd, citing a USC study by Stacy Smith.

From 2007 through 2014, according to Smith’s research, women made up only 30.2 percent of speaking or named characters in the 100 top-grossing fictional films.

But the most wildly lopsided numbers have to do with who is behind the lens. In both 2013 and 2014, women were only 1.9 percent of the directors for the 100 top-grossing films. Excluding their art-house divisions, the six major studios released only three movies last year with a female director. It’s hard to believe the number could drop to zero, but the statistics suggest female directors are slipping backward. Prof. Martha Lauzen of San Diego State University reports that in 2014, 95 percent of cinematographers, 89 percent of screenwriters, 82 percent of editors, 81 percent of executive producers and 77 percent of producers were men. — Maureen Dowd, The New York Times Magazine

Apparently the men who lead most studios channel their inner 15 year old when hiring directors. They allegedly look for edgy hipster manboys who remind them of their younger selves.

We don’t get the benefit of the doubt, particularly black women. We’re presumed incompetent, whereas a white male is assumed competent until proven otherwise. They just think the guy in the ball hat and the T-shirt over the thermal has got it, whether he’s got it or not. For buzzy first films by a white male, the trajectory is a 90-degree angle. In other words, Hillary’s Hollywood posse loves to see a woman take off her shirt and pant like a dog in various yogic poses, but those liberals won’t put that woman in the director’s chair and let her bark the orders.

William Goldman, most famous for penning The Princess Bride and Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, famously said, “Nobody knows anything…. Not one person in the entire motion picture field knows for a certainty what’s going to work.”

So, perhaps because the suits know that moviemaking is neither art nor science but merely a crapshoot, they think they might as well wager millions of dollars on directors and actors with whom they have a fine bromance.

After all, why suffer the emotional turmoil of a pre- or postmenstrual female director, who doesn’t yet understand that there’s no crying in Hollywood? No real crying, anyway.

Meanwhile, we all look forward to Hillary Clinton’s news conference when she decries the discrimination and income inequality in Hollywood, sends back all of their political contributions, and calls for federal oversight, and steep financial penalties on this cesspool of sexism.
