My husband recently noticed a lot of movies with the UN in a positive role, and basically a world-government role.
Even though Husband is largely apolitical, this made him snort. Because even people who are mostly apolitical know the disaster that child-trafficking, aid-stealing UN “troops” are, at least when they’re not just U.S. troops flying the blue flag. (What is it with the blue flags, btw? That’s the EU too. Would white be too on the nose?)
I told him that’s because the left always telegraphs their intentions. Before they were ready for Hilary!, for instance, they made movies and wrote books about a president that was basically Hillary for at least a decade and probably more. (I don’t watch TV and movies, save for odd jags, usually years after they first came out, so the actual release years are fuzzy.)
And right now the left is so near that one-world-government, no-borders, give peace a chance, John Lennon’s “Imagine” world that they can taste it.
Or so they think. Of course, they’re nowhere near it. What they are actually enabling is the plundering of the first world by the third and the destruction of civilization and the engine of creation and production that has lifted most of the world population to a level our ancestors would consider unimaginable wealth. (Yes, even most of the third world is richer than, say, Elizabethan England. But never mind that.)
The problem is that for many years now, the West has been leftist in spots and in voice.
What I mean is, while most people don’t live like the left imagines everyone should, the people who don’t live that way don’t have a voice in the media, in entertainment or in academia. And the ones who do all speak in the voice of the left.
This could easily branch out into why a truly free press and truly free public opinions are needed. And no, we haven’t had that anywhere in the west at any time in my life. If you voice opinions that dissent from the leftist choir, you will be punished. Or as the left says, ideas have consequences. Of course, they are right, ideas do, but opinions shouldn’t. What I mean is if you think we should eat children under the age of three and you carry that idea out, the consequences will be horrific. But if you have that opinion and never put it into action but just get shouted down and called names, the opinion has no consequences. It certainly shouldn’t get you run out of your job untangling paper clips. And it shouldn’t run your wife out of her job cleaning offices (though CPS might want to take away any children you produce). However, that’s a subject for a whole other article.
Let it simply stand that when you have a group of people of similar education/background and they all not only choose to believe a fallacy but refuse to let any other voice be heard – a condition true now in most left-dominated fields – you can spin up to believing some real doozies in no time.
The doozies that the left believes include that “all cultures are equally valid” that the only reason the west is more wealthy than the third world is that we’ve stolen their “raw materials” (a lack of understanding of both economics and history that is almost staggering) and that uneducated third world peasants are just as valuable for the economy as trained scientists. Also, that if you don’t believe those, it’s because you’re a racist and xenophobic.
In their world, all those caravan members need are more fashionable clothes and haircuts – but not language lessons, because wanting people to speak the dominant language of the country in which they aspire to live is racist. Also, they once tried to learn French, in high school, and it was really hard, so it’s cruel to demand little brown people learn other languages.
That’s because there’s one right way to live. Lefty intellectuals know this. Their counterparts abroad, which is whom they meet when they travel, all have the same tastes and the same lifestyle. So this is the natural way to live, and given enough wealth, everyone would live like this. Oh, wealth and education. Hence the ubiquitous scream of the lefty losing an argument to a non-lefty: “educate yourself!” As though their conclusions were completely inescapable.
This, if you think about it, is cultural imperialism on a scale that would make Victorian missionaries running around Africa decanting natives into pants step back and go “Oooh, I don’t know. Have you considered maybe other people live and believe in different ways because they want to?” Or in other words, “Provincial bores, I presume, Dr. Livingstone?”
This is why the left believes in open borders and ignores incidents like Rotherham, Koln, and frankly, all the raping and homophobic attacks that third world migrants bring into the first. These are just growing pains, they think. If you just open the borders and learn to sing Kumbaya (in perfect harmony), sooner or later we’ll just have college professors of many colors, living everywhere and frequenting the same coffee shops, and drinking the same lattes.
This is akin to someone who has a house that outstrips its neighborhood by several levels deciding to leave her door open day and night. Particularly, you know, if the house is in the middle of blighted Detroit, which metaphorically speaking, the United States is.
They just keep buying new large-screen TVs and paying for cleaning and repainting several times a day, but they refuse to close the doors because they actually live in a safe room in a tower the vandals can’t reach. And because they’re sure that given enough time, the vandals will learn to behave like the upper middle class.
Do you know how many times that has happened in history? Let me see… Oh, never.
The barbarians who invade do eventually learn to ape the manners and mode of dress of the culture they destroyed, but they retain their culture. Hundreds of years later when they rebuild something, it’s not the same thing. And sure, I think the U.S. is a vast improvement over Rome, but it is not Rome. And there were some very dicey times in between.
However, the left doesn’t get that, because they live in an isolated fantasy world. If you look at the world through their fantasy lens, an “open borders” policy make perfect sense: it just hastens us giving back to the third world all those things we “stole” from them. Welfare to all comers, including the ones who are here illegally, makes perfect sense. You see, if only these people weren’t poor and in need, they’d already be college professors. Not making them learn your language makes perfect sense: your language is evilbad, and you shouldn’t discriminate against people who balkanize your country by not being able to communicate. Letting them vote makes perfect sense: deep inside, they believe the same as college professors. That is “the correct things.”
And of course, you shouldn’t make them learn to be part of your culture. Culture for the left is exotic foods and colorful clothes, and how could you dislike those, you xenophobic racist?
Of course, what open borders really do is flood the wealthy welfare societies with hordes of people who aren’t prepared to live and work in the 21st century and bring into societies that fancy themselves “postnational” all the horrors of tribalism and all the habits of mind that keep those societies stuck in the middle ages. Or the stone age.
I don’t know if it’s endearing that the left thinks they can sell this through a continued application of the idea to entertainment, or if it’s just one more mark of their delusion.
In the real world, where all of us come into contact with the unassimilated products of this policy (though not as much as we would if the left had its “no borders, no wall, no America at all” way), real people are starting to realize this idea, if applied, is in fact the end of civilization.
And the time is coming to decide: are we going to believe the Marxist fantasists? Or our lying eyes?
