You know, it has been asserted — at Ace of Spades HQ among other places, and I made the point myself in a post here — that the left has left normal behind.
Part of their primacy in the culture, part of the reason they inserted themselves into gatekeeper positions and managed to control the media-industrial complex, is that for the longest time they looked not only normal but, as far as the human instinct can perceive it (even in a “classless” society), “high class” and commanding and in control.
Part of this, of course, was their dominance of the higher economic ranges and the respected universities, and that was achieved because the wealthier people were very afraid of the communist threat and willing to parley with it in small increments, so that their children grew up communists, as a way to control what everyone in the early twentieth century thought was “the coming new order.”
I don’t know when that slipped. I started noticing some acts of truly bizarre public performance during the Bush years. It was as though, with Motor Voter and the ease of election falsification, they’d assumed no Republican candidate would ever displace theirs, and therefore they went utterly unhinged when Bush won. From trying to disqualify the election results, to bizarre displays including hanging him in effigy, they were off the reservation. On the other hand, I understand their public displays were always fairly unhinged, including the “marching around with giant papier-mache puppets.” But even then I thought that “women dancing around in vulva” (unlike them, I know anatomy) “costumes” was a step beyond.
Maybe those costumes and the silliness of them were around before, and it was only their being reported on new media that made them so completely insane.
In fact, I think what is happening is a combination of New Media and their completely and totally losing their minds more and more every year, culminating in Trump’s election.
Trump’s election does seem to mark some kind of watershed, in that now they’re being definitely non-normal not just in street displays, but on their own channels and their own publications.
To an extent I understand. Every indication we have is that they picked the GOP candidate least likely to win, threw their wiles behind getting him nominated, set up the idea of Hillary inevitability and backed it with the power of their stars, the power of mass media, the power of everything… and yet he persisted. That is, Trump not only won but frankly has governed in a way that is far far better than most of us expected.
And all they can do is lose their minds more and more, in a more and more public way.
Sure, okay, I know that Newsweek was once sold for a dollar, but it is still what they consider one of their sane and mainstream publications.
Which when you read articles like this makes you realize how abnormal, deranged and utterly insane the left has got: How Hillary Clinton Still Can, and Should, Become President After the Trump-Russia Investigation.
At this point, if you are a normal, rational human being, you’re not even thinking “How, by magic?”
You’re actually thinking “What, you’re still stuck on that?”
It turns out both are right. They’re still stuck on that, and yes, by magic.
If you venture forth into the article you find that you’re in danger of losing IQ points. If you persist, what you find is this “process”:
If number 1: If Trump is definitively found to have colluded directly with Russia, he would be forced to resign or be impeached.
If number 2: If Trump is removed, Vice President Mike Pence would become president.
If number 3: If Pence becomes president, he should resign too, given that he benefited from the same help from Mother Russia.
If number 4: If Pence resigns before appointing a vice president, Ryan would become president.
If number 5: If Ryan becomes president, he should do the right thing and choose Clinton for vice president. Then he should resign.
Note that we start with a fantasy. Since last November they’ve been barking “but Russia” and have yet to identify a mechanism by which Russia could cause Trump to win, let alone prove – which would be necessary – that Trump colluded with them in the process of causing Trump to win.
They have managed to uncover that Russia bought Facebook ads for BLM, they’ve uncovered Russian links to Hillary and Russian links to Obama. But the vaunted “Russia hacked the elections so Trump won” still eludes them. At worst, if Russia had done what they believe it did, and Trump had known about it (both of which are doubtful at best) by releasing Hillary’s emails for the public to see, this would still fall short of a) ensuring Trump’s election and b)proving collusion in ensuring Trump’s election. At worst Russia would have done the job our quisling media refused to do.
And yet, they’ll pursue their Russian dreams as if the last 11 months hadn’t happened.
Then they rightly have Pence succeed — but they decide he’d just feel so bad he’d resign. Because…. Cheese. Or the will of the people, or something, because in their heads “the people” means progressive, because they are on the right side of history’s arrow.
Then they rightly have Ryan succeed — but inexplicably have him pick Hillary Clinton for president, and then resign in her favor.
Why? I don’t know. Because that’s what they want in their heads.
I’m not a psychiatrist. However, not only isn’t the left holding the “normal” image they cultivated and built over such a long time, they’re not even holding the “sane” or “adult” image anymore.
Apparently, the TV anchors crying and pouting over Hillary’s loss were just the beginning. Now every prominent or influential leftist is locked in a protracted sob, fists clenched, threatening to hold their breath until Hillary is president. And their thought on how to achieve this is increasingly so fantastic that even as an alternate-world world-building exercise it would fail.
I don’t know about you guys, but this is starting to get creepy. Sure, we wanted the left revealed for the fantasists they are.
But how does a country resume even vaguely normal life when at least 25% of it is throwing a massive tantrum because they didn’t get their Hillary ice cream?
How does one send a quarter of the country, many with bully pulpits, to their room for a timeout?
I don’t know. I offer only a glimmer of hope. Note that even in their fantasy they have nothing about Hillary winning an election.
Let us be grateful they’re sane enough to realize that she can’t do.
