Bill Maher Admonishes Liberals to Forget the Culture War and Win the Government

On his HBO show “Real Time,” Bill Maher gave voice to what most liberals have been praying for since Donald Trump took office: a bad economy.

Liberal comedian Bill Maher on Friday said that he hopes the economy crashes in order to “get rid” of President Donald Trump.

Maher made the remarks on his HBO talk show, “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

“I feel like the bottom has to fall out at some point,” he said.

“By the way, I’m hoping for it because one way you get rid of Trump is a crashing economy. So please, bring on the recession.”

“Sorry if that hurts people but it’s either root for a recession or you lose your democracy,” Maher added.

Yes, yes — let’s throw a couple of million Americans out of work. That’ll do the trick. Misery, worry, fear — these are the best weapons the Democrats have. They’ve been grossly exaggerating the danger of Trump, ginning up hysteria and outrage, getting their base in a lather, but in the end, what have they got?

Bupkis.

But at least Maher has a clue about what liberals should be doing.

HuffPost:

Bill Maher got down to business Friday night in a not-so-funny monologue winding up “Real Time.” He accused liberals of being so busy patting themselves on the back getting Roseanne Barr bounced off TV for racist tweets that they forgot — again — about far more critical battles.

“I’m often surprised how often liberals I talk to think that we’re winning. We, who control nothing. Winning?” he asked.

He skewered liberals for “joy” they “take in vaporizing people and making every offense a hanging offense” — while missing the bigger picture.

“Conservatives govern without shame and liberals shame without governing,” he said.

“We get to banish actors. Liberals control the culture, yes, but right now wouldn’t you rather control the border?”

As for President Donald Trump, he warned: “I wouldn’t put it past him to try and cancel the next election.”

I’d say that was pretty much spot on.

One amazing quote from Maher concerns Trump canceling the next election. It shows how eerily similar the far right is to the far left.

How many times did you read on right-wing sites in the lead-up to the 2012 election that we wouldn’t put it past Obama to cancel the election? For me, it was dozens and dozens.

Maher is full of it and probably knows it when it comes to any president canceling an election. But God help Republicans if the Democrats take his advice. Right now, liberals are like kids with a new toy every day — one more target to hit, one more scalp to put on the lodgepole, distracted by shiny baubles. If they ever focus that enormous energy on destroying people in electoral politics, we’re done for.
