WASHINGTON — Vice President Mike Pence called the Trump administration the most “pro-adoption” administration in history and vowed to “stand without apology for the sanctity of life.”

Pence described the personal struggle that he and Karen, his wife, had with infertility for years. He explained that they had considered adoption until they received the call that Karen was pregnant. The couple behind them for an adoption experienced infertility challenges so, Pence said he and Karen decided to “step out of the way.”

“There’s roughly the same number of couples experiencing infertility in this country than there are abortions. Literally, year after year the number of families that struggle with unexplained infertility is roughly equal to the number of abortions,” Pence said at an Administration for Children and Families’ National Adoption Month celebration at the Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday. “So I truly do believe as we stand without apology for the sanctity of life, we must stand for and expand access to adoption in America — that’s how we make progress, by putting families together.”
