WASHINGTON – Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has refused to answer any questions about her tax return issues that the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board recently discovered.

According to the board, Omar filed joint tax returns for the years 2014 and 2015 with Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, whom she was not legally married to at the time. Omar was reportedly married to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen, for those years, but her tax returns were filed with Hirsi, which is a violation of Minnesota state law as well as federal law.

The Associated Press reported that Omar and Elmi married in 2009 and their divorce was finalized in 2018.

Omar has not released her tax returns publicly. When asked if she will release her returns, as shown in the video below, Omar walked away and declined to respond.

Omar also wouldn’t say why she had filed joint tax returns with a man she was not married to at the time. According to the AP, “while she has called for President Donald Trump to release his tax returns, her campaign did not acknowledge the AP’s request to release hers. Her campaign also did not answer a question about whether there might be issues with other tax returns prior to Omar’s marriage to Hirsi in 2018.”
