As part of its broader fact-checking efforts, The Associated Press announced Thursday that it will work with Facebook to help identify and debunk trending “news” stories being shared online that are false.
AP stories dispelling patently false trending news articles already appear on the AP wire, on APNews.com and on the AP News app. These stories, which will now say “AP Fact Check” in the headline, include details on AP’s efforts to verify the facts in fake news stories.
Now, when AP or another participating fact-check organization flags a piece of content as fake, Facebook users will see that it has been disputed and there will be a link to the corresponding article explaining why. That flag will follow the content if a Facebook user chooses to share it.
Of course, nobody can be against unmasking fake news, right? We all want to make sure that the news we read is actually true, so what’s the problem here?
Well, as libertarian website ZeroHedge explains, these “fake news” stories and websites are to be “arbitrarily defined” by the mainstream media and Facebook, both of which are known to be led by ideological leftists who use their power and influence to spread progressive propaganda. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that these organizations will do everything in their power to destroy libertarian and conservative news media. “Fake news” will be made the equivalent of “conservatives news and opinion.” Meanwhile, leftist organizations like the New York Times, the Washington Post, and others will get away with every false or misleading story they publish because, well, they’re the good guys.

I have no faith whatsoever in either the AP’s or Facebook’s willingness to give conservative and libertarian websites a fair shake. Their fake war on “fake news” will simply result in conservative outlets being written off as biased, while every leftist news website or channel will be promoted as “fair and accurate.”
