Washington Official Screams at Female Victim of Sexual Battery in Defense of Sex Offender

King County Regional Homelessness Authority Continuum of Care Advisory Committee

An unthinkable thing happened at the King County Regional Homelessness Authority board in Seattle when the co-chair, Shanee Colston, began screaming at a female board member for raising concerns about appointing a sex offender to the board.

The really bizarre part was that the woman had a personal experience with the sex offender that she says resulted in unwanted touching or sexual battery, and she was trying to tell Colston that she wouldn’t feel safe being in the same room as the man.

Thomas Leviel Whitaker was convicted of sexually abusing two minors, ages 13 and 15. Colston regaled his “life experience” as a representative of “LGBTQAI+, indigenous, and chronic homelessness.” Colston began to scream at the unidentified woman on the board when she raised concerns about Whitaker’s criminal record: “I’m going to cut you off because we don’t expose people’s private business here…I won’t stand for that as the co-chair! Sex offenders are part of the population that are most vulnerable!”

At that point, the woman began trying to tell Colston that Whitaker had touched her, and Colston started screaming, “Christie, stop! As the co-chair, I’m telling you you cannot talk like that in this meeting. I will not have that here. If anyone wants to talk like that, you will be muted and removed from this meeting. This is about equity and everyone, EVERYONE DESERVES HOUSING.” Colston continued screaming and silencing the woman for referencing Whitaker’s public criminal record. “I don’t care if they’re coming out of jail, prison. Everyone deserves housing!”

Surprisingly, the King County Regional Homelessness Authority put out a statement backing up the female board member and claims to have asked Colston to resign.

KCRHA shares the concerns of our community about the nomination of a registered sex offender for the Continuum of Care Board and does not support that nomination. We agree that the behavior by the current Board Co-Chair in shouting down the board member who identified that the nominee is a registered sex offender was unacceptable, and we immediately asked the Co-Chair to resign.

If Colston actually resigns, this will be a win for sanity. Our culture has bowed down to woke values so far that our heads are all up our collective backsides if we allow sex offenders to somehow compete in the Oppression Olympics.

Be careful who you elect to positions of authority.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article identified Colson as transgender. Ann Martens, a representative from the KCRHA, told PJ Media in an email that “Shanee Colston is a female and a mother.”
